Week 5: Jeremiah 29:11
"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a future and a hope".
In life we often make all these plans in our minds of what we want to do, who we want to be, where we want to go. So when those plans do not come to fruition it can be very disappointing and sometimes knock us to a point where we can feel hopeless.
Woody Allen once said "If you want to make God laugh, tell him about you plans," which follows from the old Yiddish Proverb 'Man plans, God laughs.' Who of us can add a single moment to our life, or guarantee to ourselves that we will see tomorrow? What does this tell us? It tells us that ultimately we are not in control. That is a GOOD thing. Who better to hold our life in their hands than our all powerful, all seeing, all knowing, omnipresent, loving Father. And how wonderful to know that we can leave our life in his hands, knowing that he promises us prosperity; that his plan isn't ever to harm us, but to give us a future and a hope.
This Week's Reflection
Read the full chapter of Jeremiah 29 this week and make a spider diagram, noting down all of the promises God gives in this chapter. Then note down how each promise relates to you? Stick it up on your wall, reflect on it each day and see how God moves in your life.
